Monday, November 4th, 2002 Cove Lake State Park/ Campbell County, Tn In a cold drizzle today I saw 10 HERRING GULLS on the lake. One was a mature adult and the others first year birds. This is the most Herring Gulls I have seen here. They were present for about 30 minutes and then took off heading SW. Fall firsts for the lake were RING-NECKED DUCKS (6) and HOODED MERGANSERS (7) American Coot numbers have increased for their wintering and 42 were counted. 4 DC Comorants were present in the middle of the lake. There were not many species seen today. The Mute Swan is being his usual "friendly" self and aggressively chasing everything that moves in "his territory".
