I was with Fred Alsop and a group of TWRA folks (and some other bird folks) on a bird identification class on an area that is called Caryville Flats (up past Cross Mtn), which as I am told was just into Campbell County. Anyway, we were in the grassland, which is essentially a big fescue field on a "reclaimed" strip mine, and I heard a distant Henslow's Sparrow. After everyone looked at me and thought I was crazy, we walked up toward where I heard one and we found 2 singing Henslow's Sparrows on the highest of the grassy fields. We didn't get any photos as we were fogged in and it was drizzling. Neither bird got very close either. We also had a couple grasshopper sparrows singing here as well. A little playback brought one of the grasshoppers about 30 ft from us where it sat in the road and gave some nice looks! Good birding!
