Harpeth River Greenway Davidson Co. Bellevue, TN 2010 Jan. 23 7:10-8:20 am mostly cloudy cold Sunday morning I did my weekend walk at the Harpeth River Greenway in SW Davidson Co. I encountered only 1 other person on my walk so there was plenty of opportunity to listen and look for birds. Huge flocks of EUROPEAN STARLINGs continue in the area. When hundreds of birds take off and wheel in the sky they remind me of some of the fish balls photographed on various nature programs. I tallied 31 species during my morning walk. The best was my first RED-SHOULDERED HAWK for the greenway in a tree along the river. It was very puffed up, trying to get warm after the sun rose. On my way back to the parking lot on Old Harding Road, 6 species of sparrows were in evidence. The best of the bunch were 5 SAVANNAH SPARROWs that popped up in the sunken field in front of the lake, providing me with an enjoyable ending to my walk.
