Yesterday and today a pair of Bluebirds have been claiming their nest
box and starting to carry nesting materials into the box. this seems
to be a little earlier that in past years. I guess they are trying to
get a head start before the Tree Swallows arrive that have nested in
one of our boxes for the last two years.

Other yard birds today:
4 Eastern Towhees
8 Cardinals
3 Brown-headed nuthatches
2 Pine Warblers
4 Downy Woodpeckers
10 White-throat Sparrows
12 Red-winged Blackbirds
6 Grackles
1 Sharp-shinned Hawk, didn't see the other of the resident pair today
1 Carolina Wren
Numerous American Goldfinches (some males beginning to show summer
yellow), Black-capped Chickadees, Slate-colored Juncos, Tufted
Titmice and Mourning Doves.

Tom Hesler

Polk County,
