Yesterday and today a pair of Bluebirds have been claiming their nest box and starting to carry nesting materials into the box. this seems to be a little earlier that in past years. I guess they are trying to get a head start before the Tree Swallows arrive that have nested in one of our boxes for the last two years. Other yard birds today: 4 Eastern Towhees 8 Cardinals 3 Brown-headed nuthatches 2 Pine Warblers 4 Downy Woodpeckers 10 White-throat Sparrows 12 Red-winged Blackbirds 6 Grackles 1 Sharp-shinned Hawk, didn't see the other of the resident pair today 1 Carolina Wren Numerous American Goldfinches (some males beginning to show summer yellow), Black-capped Chickadees, Slate-colored Juncos, Tufted Titmice and Mourning Doves.
