Roseanna Denton, Melissa Easley and I crossed state lines this weekend to kayak and bird in TN. This morning we wandered around the Duck River Unit of the Tennessee NWR and enjoyed a few good birds. The pools offered mud flats for herons and shorebirds. We counted 107 Semipalmated Sandpipers, 2 Dunlin and one spotted sandpiper. We were surprised to see a Northern Pintail walking with the Mallards. It flew freely so our thoughts that it may be injured were dismissed. Other birds of interest were,Bald Eagle, nesting Osprey, Least Tern and Dickcissel. The Buffalo River offered a fun paddle and TN hospitality was felt wherever we stopped.
