Byrdstown, Tn Pickett County Finally, I had about 500+ Sandhill Cranes at 4:00 PM, in different groups, flying south but after hitting gusty winds they turned back and disappeared over the bluff behind my house. I presume they are down for the night on the mudflats of Dale Hollow Lake as they have been doing since I have been keeping records for the last 35 years. I will be watching in the morning around 9:00 AM for them to rise and start south again---that is if they didn't settle too far down the lake. In that case, they may too far west for me to see.
