Linda Northrop, Alice Loftin, and I logged about 275 miles today birding
lakes and fields in northeast Tennessee. Weather conditions were often
unfavorable for viewing, but we nonetheless recorded some notable
species. Here's a summary:
Common Loon (DL--Sevier County);
Pied-billed Grebe (3 ML);
Black-crowned Night-Heron (27 DL tailwaters, perched in trees along the
shore waiting for a smorgasbord of fish to pour through the dam as
electricity was generated);
Snow Goose (19 Greene County (10 blue, 9 white));
Mallard (455 Greene County, 150+ ML, 3 OIRA);
American Black Duck (18 Greene County, 1 ML);
American Wigeon (7 OIRA);
Ring-necked Duck (62 OIRA);
Common Goldeneye (female OIRA);
Bufflehead (160 OIRA);
Hooded Merganser (2 ML);
Red-breasted Merganser (8 CL--Jefferson County, viewed from the parking
lot at the restroom area);
Northern Harrier (7 Greene County);
Wild Turkey (48 Greene County);
American Coot (12 ML);
Ring-billed Gull (462 Jefferson County, 350+ ML, 200 Greene County, 113
Sevier County, 8 Washington County, 3 Grainger County);
Yellow-bellied Sapsucker (Sevier County);
Hairy Woodpecker (OIRA);
Winter Wren (OIRA);
Savannah Sparrow (5 Greene County);
Rusty Blackbird (23 Greene County).
