New Johnsonville
Humphreys County
My Front Yard
Well I have my front door open enjoying the beautiful sunshine. While
cooking dinner I am looking out the front door and observe a male cardinal
appearing to feed on a caterpillar. Open closer inspection I see it is a
monarch caterpillar. He keeps picking it up partial taking it in and then
dropping it again. This goes on for several minutes and I assume the bad
taste will cause him to soon quit. He finally drops it but then snatches
another one off the native milkweed I have planted at my front steps. He
finally notices me and flies off with it. I guess I always thought of
cardinals as seed eaters. You learn something new every day!
