A quick trip into the Cades Cove sewerage ponds in Great Smoky Mountains NP,
Blount County, at 2:15 PM revealed 53-57 Bufflehead (hard to count the
diving little buggers), 25 Canada geese, 15 Mallards, one Greater yellowlegs,
and
one American pipit inside the enclosures. Along the wood line were one
Eastern phoebe, 2 White-breasted nuthatch, 2 Yellow-bellied sapsuckers, 3
Eastern
bluebirds, 1 Tufted titmouse, 2 Song sparrows and a Carolina wren. Three
crows were calling in the distance along with one Pileated woodpecker.
Weather was sunny, breeze out of SW and about 54 degrees. A very enjoyable
15 minute break from volunteer tasks.
