The Chattanooga Chapter of the Tennessee Ornithological Society invites
all to attend it's regular monthly meeting on Thursday, Dec 14 at
7:00-pm.
Featured this month:
December Study Skin Challenge: Come a few minutes early to test your
bird identification skills with this new activity. A small group of
specimens of winter bird species will be displayed to help you hone your
ID abilities. This month will feature species that may be encountered
on Christmas Bird Counts in the area later this month. Thanks to the
University of Tennessee, Chattanooga for loaning specimens.
Bird of the Month: Mute Swan Prior to the main program, Dennis Harris
will present a short talk on the the Mute Swan. Take this opportunity
to learn some fun facts about this old world immigrant.
December Program: Every holiday season thousands of birders across the
continent participate in the Audubon Christmas Bid counts and
Chattanooga members have certainly contributed their share of effort.
Dennis Harris has done some analysis of the results of past Christmas
Bird Counts in the Chattanooga area including the Hiwassee, Chattanooga
and Nickajack Counts. With the CBC season quickly approaching this
promises to be a timely presentation utilizing the fruits of many CTOS
members' labors over the last several decades of counts. Come learn
about what has been determined in past years and how you can be involved
in this winter's CBCs.
Refreshments and socializing: Thanks to Vicky and Jack Leather who will
host the refreshment table this month.
Our group meets the 2nd Thursday of each month at ascension Lutheran
Church, 720 S. Germantown Rd (just south of I-24 in East Ridge)
