Late Friday afternoon we headed to Lytle Creek Rd (Rutherford County) to see the Scissor-tail Flycatchers and hoped to see/hear the Bewick's Wren. After seeing a couple of Scissor-tail Flycatchers, sitting on the wire in their "usual spot," we rode to where the Bewick's Wren has been and did hear it, but did not see it. We turned around and headed back toward the area where the Scissor-tail Flycatchers were, and as we drove slowly with the windows down, I heard Bobolinks singing. We pulled over next to a wheat field and looked over a barbed wire fence hedge and saw Red-winged Blackbirds mixed with a flock of Bobolinks. Very few Bobolinks were visible as they were sitting on the tops of wheat, but as they flew we saw about 20 in total. We went back late Saturday afternoon and saw 2 Scissor-tail Flycatchers in the same spot, and again saw the flock of Bobolinks in the same field. We also saw/heard 2 Dickcissels sitting on the wire across the road from the Bobolinks. A Common Yellowthroat was also heard singing in the background in the same area. We also saw a Grasshopper Sparrow sitting on a hedge not far from the field with the Bobolinks. Sunday afternoon around 2:00, we took another ride out to Lytle Creek Rd and saw 2 pairs of Scissor-tail Flycatchers in the same area as usual. We saw/heard the 2 Dickcissels sitting on the wire across from the wheat field and heard more Dickcissels further along the road by the field. We saw very few Bobolinks in the field this time. Also seen/heard along the road: Eastern Kingbirds Summer Tanagers Chimney Swifts Barn Swallows Tree Swallow Eastern Meadowlarks Eastern Bluebirds 1 Unidentified bird of prey Happy Birding, Chloe Walker =================NOTES TO SUBSCRIBER===================== The TN-Bird Net requires you to SIGN YOUR MESSAGE with first and last name, CITY (TOWN) and state abbreviation.
