Edgar Evins State Park DeKalb County, TN 15 June 2006 Maggie Monteverde and I spend the morning at Edgar Evins State Park at Center Hill Lake this morning. We hiked a fair portion of the Millennium Trail. We had well over 10 Cerulean Warblers. Two were singing at the Visitor Center Parking Lot, one along the road to the trailhead, two at the trail head and at least 7, possibly 8 along the trail as we hiked. Other birds in considerable numbers were Kentucky Warblers. We encountered 3 separate family grouping with recent fledglings and accompanying adult birds. We observed a odd bit of bird behavior.... On a branch about five feet off the ground was a lone immature Kentucky Warbler. We saw another bird fly to the young Kentucky. I assumed it was an adult about to feed it. But as I got my binoculars on it I realized it was an adult Worm-eating Warbler which grabbed the Kentucky's tail with its bill and yanked the bird. It badgered the young bird until the latter moved and then chased it away. We also had numerous Wood Thrush all seemingly singing at once in the same general area. Other notables seen were: Great Blue Heron Hairy Woodpecker Yellow-throated Warbler Prothonotary Warbler Hooded Warbler American Redstart Northern Parula Kevin Bowden Nashville, TN =================NOTES TO SUBSCRIBER===================== The TN-Bird Net requires you to SIGN YOUR MESSAGE with first and last name, CITY (TOWN) and state abbreviation.
