I have a large Cooper Hawk that makes 2-3 visits a day. (Assuming
female). She had been unsuccessful at attempts until yesterday. At that
time she nabbed a Brown-headed Cowbird. There is a pair of American Crows
that appear to be nesting in the back corner of the property. We typically
have them in the feeder area, but yesterday and today I seen them in the
bird creek. We have two sets of tree swallows. One pair is building a
nest in a bluebird box and the other in martin gourds. The Eastern
Bluebirds are nesting in blue bird box across the drive from the swallows.
I haven't looked in a few days, but there were 3 eggs. We have a pair of
Brown Thrashers again this year. They visit the bird bath together in the
afternoon. Otherwise, I only have a single bird off and on all day. This
individual is no longer scared of me.
I finally had a Song Sparrow again today. They had been absent for a
while. A single White-throated Sparrow visits in the evenings near dark.
Field sparrows and chipping sparrows are daily visitors.
I have a single Indigo Bunting male visiting the last two days. I had a
female the other day. No visits from a Grosbeak today. I've had Pine
Siskins now for several days. Today was the highest number at 11. No
warblers seen today. I thought I heard a Wood Thrush calling today, but it
was so far away, and with the American Goldfinches being so obnoxious, it
was hard to tell for sure.
Species numbers average 30-35 daily sitting on the deck.
