For most of the winter this year, we could not "buy" our usual ground birds. Since we have been here 38 years of study and observation and live in the city, we always had to create the right environment and the female senior pulled one used Christmas tree down the road and papa loaded two more trees in the trunk of our old car. We created a magical setting and Mother Nature helped with a few inches of snow and we have had the following: Fox Sparrow - 2 White-throated Sparrow - several Junco Carolina Wren Blue Jays - several Cardinal - several Our feeders hosted: Purple Finch, 3 female, 1 male Goldfinches - several Downy - woodpecker Chickadee Titmouse House finch Ready for football now!
