HI folks, I thought I'd have a little fun with some of you range map and habitat geeks. Get out your copy of Stupka's and Alsop's and Nicholson's books and see if who can come the closest on guessing what the top birds were on my BBS route today, in terms of number of individuals, and number of stops they were seen/heard at. Here is the route I took: Newfound Gap Road from Sugarlands Visitor Center to Clingman's Dome Road. Then I drove Balsam/Heintooga. (Sevier County, TN and western North Carolina). All within Great Smoky Mountains NP. For those of you not familiar with Breeding Bird Surveys, the protocol is to start at 5:48 am (at least for this route) and stop every 1/2 mile. Get out of the car and look and listen for 3 minutes. Good luck! I'll post the top guessers. And I'll even let Fred and Chuck play if they want to. I promise not to post any answers that are way off...
