TN-Birders, Cranes were flying again today. I had been working outside this morning and had started back inside about 11:15 when I heard the faint sounds of cranes in flight coming from the South. By 11:20, we had a flight of 30 and a flight of 20 circling above our house to gain altitude. As they went higher and higher, they were joined by smaller groups of 8, 6, 3 and 14. They separated into three flights and headed North again. Then about a minute behind flew one lone Sandhill calling for all his might. He(it) soon caught up and all 82 of them flew out of sight. The whole process took about 15 minutes We've now been watching Sandhills for fifteen years and each new flight is just as interesting as the first one.
