Regarding American Woodcocks in Tennessee.
These birds are in the state most months of the year. I have seen them every
month from January to July, and also September.
The best time of year to actually see them is while they are doing their
mating display flights, generally January at least into May. I have seen them
displaying at least two different years in June at Chota Waterfowl Refuge in
Monroe County.
I don't know if the ones displaying in winter actually stay in the area and
breed, or if they are wintering birds preparing to migrate north.
