Are you running Windows 2003 SP1? I had a similar issue once I installed SP1.
Not using the Folder Redirection in group
policy fixed it. Other users are reporting similar issues. Typically manifested
by the message "Applying Personal
Document Settings" and always seems to take a minimum of 10 seconds.

Note that redirecting profile folders to a mapped drive will mess up most .MSI
installers if running from an RDP or ICA
session. If you see the message "Invalid Drive Y:", open the UserShellFolders
key and change everything to a local drive
or UNC path.

Subject: [THIN] What is the best way to redirect My Documents

I'm curious to hear what everyone thinks is the best way to redirect
user's My Documents folder. We currently use Group Policy which adds 10
seconds are more, depending on the size of My Documents, as it redirects
the content. In test I've removed the Group Policy setting to redirect
My Documents and have instead added it to mandatory profile by changing
the HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell
Folders\Personal to equal Y:\My Documents. I also changed the My
Pictures setting. This has cut 10 seconds off the login time.

1) What is the preferred method?
2) Can anyone think of any negatives to using the mandatory profile vs.
GPO?

Thanks
