Using it now on home PC. Seems OK. Hard to find stuff. Annoyed with the fact that I have an upgrade license. This means you can't load it fresh and then activate. You have to have XP installed and then do an upgrade where it renames your windows to windows.old I thought I'd managed to do this by not entering a code during install and now when I try and activate it say that my key is upgrade only. Annoyed with that as I will have to trash box and install XP just to install Vista. 29 days and counting till I must activate. Can't get drivers for everything including Microsoft hardware !!! Just need to give it a bit of time I think. I agree with Joe that stuff is hidden away. Haven't tested all my apps yet but no doubt half of them won't work and will require an upgrade....Once the vendors are up to speed I think it will all be good. It certainly has some eye candy to look at. malcolm From: thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Evan Mann Sent: 19 January 2007 19:31 To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [THIN] Re: Vista is Coming! For those of you supporting fat client, how has your Vista testing been going? Ours have not been so positive. A few of my help desk guys having been playing around with Vista on some brand new dell OptiPlex 745's we have. Clean XP load, using all Dell supplied Vista drivers where necessary. Office 2003 SP2. As long as they keep it as basic as that, things work OK, but once you start trying to play around, things go south. One guy tried to install a new video driver (Vista certified) and it crashed the box so bad it had to be reloaded. Another guy tried to use UltraMon and it crashed that box so bad it had to be reloaded. ________________________________ From: thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Joe Shonk Sent: Friday, January 19, 2007 12:37 PM To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [THIN] Re: Vista is Coming! I went to the one in Phoenix (Wednesday) and it was a mad house. There had to have been 3000+ people there. FWIW: If you do go, MS will make you stay for lunch if you're want a free copy office. Overall, it was ok, nothing specially.. I will say, that after installing Vista and Office on my Laptop, I am convinced that Microsoft hates geeks. It is by far the most unintuitive interface I've ever used. It took hours to find and tweak the settings on this thing (to something usable and visually appealing) in addition they took away so of the good features of XP (I am going to sorely miss my run history). Anyone on know of any good Linux distro with seamless integration of a GUI and samba client? I tried Unbuntu, it's ok but still looking something better.
