Hi Rick

Thanks for the reply..
Im confident I can sort out issues with Network Associates + SMS and any other application specific error. My main concern is Citrix itself. The image I am to use is already in the farm and will continue to be in the farm. Im creating a new server. Do I not need to make changes to citrix itself. Wont the install of Citrix be expecting the old server name (based on the name in the Ghost image)? Datastore changes? We connect to a SQL backend. Is it worth doing a search/replace in the registry of all old server name instances to new name?

It sounds almost too easy.. Im afraid I'll be missing something

Thanks again

Hi Angela,

Metaframe XP was relatively easy to clone and what you've proposed will work fine.

If you're using Sophos, there are some registry values (private keys) that have to be deleted pre-sid change or you'll stuff up the update service.

Aside from that it will work and it will be reliable.

Use the cloning step as an opportunity to defrag the disk etc to make the clones server just like a new one ;-)

regards,

Rick

Subject: [THIN] Using a Ghost image to build a new server

Hi

I need to build a new server to add to my Citrix farm. I dont want to
manually build this. I have a ghost image of an existing system that I want
to use for a new server. All hardware is the same. The Ghost image
contains:

Windows 2000 Std SP4
Metaframe XP 1.0
Server is in domain
Server is in Citrix farm
Lots of apps

Image is not SYSPREPed. Its a straight Ghost. Applications are not name
specific.

Do I simply do the following to get this new server up and running:
- remove server from domain
- rename server to new name
- Change SID
- change IP

Do I need to uninstall/reinstall Metaframe? Will this server be reliable?
Ive seen documents that explain how to create a ghost SYSPREP image but not
a document for me scenario (ie existing std ghost image)

Thanks
