Depending on network speed/latency. We have a Gigabit switch for our
local redirections and  don't notice anything. At one point we were (In
our test environement, thanks heaven) going across a 2MB ADSL. That was
painful.

If you redirect it (presumably to a network location), then you will
likely see some delays or pauses in applications.
