I don't think it's thin-client only: "Cologne/Houston 20 May 2008. At the Citrix Synergy exhibition in Houston (Texas/USA), Cologne-based sepago GmbH today announced that the sepagoPROFILE software it developed has been sold to Citrix Systems Inc. USA. The agreement includes the complete takeover of the product, which will form the future core technology for profile management within the Citrix Delivery Center (Citrix XenDesktop, Citrix XenApp and Citrix Provisioning Server). In addition, the development division of sepago will continue development of the product for the virtualization of application provisioning in cooperation with Citrix over the next 18 months. "The administration of user profiles as developed by sepago is currently the best available solution for the virtualization of user profiles under aspects of performance and future-proofing. The technology provides an important basis for high user satisfaction as it takes care of a seamless integration of the different Citrix products in terms of user profiles. As Citrix is the leading technology provider in the area of dynamic data center provisioning, the acquisition of sepagoPROFILE is a strategic success for us“ judges Mick Hollison, Vice President Citrix Inc. Citrix will announce the aquisition of sepagoPROFILE at Synergy in Houston. It is probably fair to say that it does not address the architectural issues with profiles themselves. In my experience there are plenty of organizations in which long login times are a real productivity/satification/cost factor and I think it is great that there is a solution that can directly address that. It seems that the main benefit is logon time, which of course is critical but am I missing anything as far as other benefits/problems solved? Not knocking at all, it’s a great idea….in fact is a TS environment the only place it can be used or can it be implemented for roaming profiles on a fat client?
