Good point - tho' I don't recall seeing a 'make this a per machine'
setting as opposed to per user - Grrrrr ...
Regards,
Alan.

I look at it as a convenience thing. if you want it to affect everyone,
you put it in HKLM. If you want some to have it and not others, you put
it in HKCU. It has it's uses......

been annoying me for days and I never thought to look in HKLM.
Why is this in HKLM as well as HKU ?

Hey everyone, I finally got this figured out at the client site.
There was a HKLM setting that was overriding all the settings
that I was adjusting. Always remember, HKLM overrides HKCU every time.
ARGH. Reason I didn't see it was because it was set locally on the
servers and not through GPO.

thanks for all the suggetsions everyone. I just gave up

get it to work. they wanted it as a luxury, not a requirement.

Ok, so close. I can pull up the context menu
that has the toolbars but they are all greyed out. I've made sure
disable custom toolbars is disabled (as in doesn't apply). Any other
ideas?

Or make sure someone hasn't enabled the
policy setting to enable the 'classic' layout - that does the same thing
iirc.
In XP/W2k3 there's also a 'disable
custom toolbars' that mightn't help either.
