Well said.=20 Im in the middle of scoping out a project for a large corporate here for = MF XP, and Im not going to recommend XPe as it wont offer any extra = value to them. XPa would be fine as they already have their investment = in deployment tools with Zen 4, so why not use this. The biggest problem I have with XPe is that the IM side is only a half = solution.=20 IM only works on the Citrix level. When youre doing scripted/automated = builds for clients for farms, why the heck would you want to fork out = extra $$$ for something that doesn't deploy at the OS level.=20 Where if the client already has something like Altiris, Zen etc which = will work on all levels and you can still offer the same roll back and = change control features of IM plus more. But I figure it would work fine. I mean if you aren't using IM for delivering applications then you could use the Altiris just fine. Also if you don't use the RM piece and use a NetIQ or MOM, etc.. you could go with XPa and have all the functionality (Have done this will some clients) Any way I have pushed stuff with it to other platforms it would just mean nailing down the process for those boxes. As for Citrix not liking it... Yeah well Citrix SEs and I have a Love Hate=3D20 Relationship as it is. =3D20 In most really large environments the Citrix guys are somewhat separated from the application packager and delivery guys (who are focused on Workstations) and then in some cases they are even separated from the server guys if you can believe that.=3D20 Anyway this leads to the Citrix teams in these environments maintaining the corporate standards at a minimum and developing their own solutions for apps and patching etc... So if any one wants to play with this and upset Citrix let me know. I'll be happy to come work on a new solution for Citrix server patching. The problem I see with some of the SEs is that they have a mind set of "If its not Citrix its not right". This basically translates into them getting upset when you come up with a solution for a customer and use components that fit the clients needs but aren't all Citrix. (such as deploying Citrix fixes via altiris or applications via softricity etc). What they don't understand is that you are enabling a client to meet their goals and be successfully with their software. They should be happy instead of upset but I find all to often that I am at odds with my regional SEs over these things. Well I will end my Rant here </RANT>, with the addition that there are several great Citrix SEs that don't do this, they believe in great solutions (you know who you are) but not all. That is provided they dont want the RMS component of XPe. =3D20 Citrix dont like this though. =3D20 Tony. -----Original Message-----=3D20 From: Ron Oglesby [mailto:roglesby@xxxxxxxxxxxx]=3D20 Sent: Wed 25/06/2003 8:41 a.m.=3D20 To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx=3D20 Cc:=3D20 Subject: [THIN] Re: OT: Citrix Automatic Update =3D09 =3D09 Not really.
