[THIN] Re: Load Balancing, so what if ALL servers report a full load

Hi,

Once a server gets "full" it becomes unavailable for any more logins. You'll
see this happening if you use time-sheduled load balancing. When the
timescheduling cuts in, the server load goes to 10000 and no more users can get
logged on.

Considering that the default is 100 users for a full load user loading
shouldn't be too much of a problem.

But if you've got 90 users in total and want some redundancy, then setting the
servers to a maximum of less than 45-50 would be kind of counterintuitive.

All you're doing by raising the maximum user numbers is reducing the
granularity a bit. Load balancing will still work, but get a bit less well
balanced.

Of course there was the time when the IMA service on a server went haywire and
it remained the "least" loaded server despite 147 people logging on.
Interresting exercise in scalability ;-)

regards,

Rick

Subject: [THIN] Load Balancing, so what if ALL servers report a full load

XPe, this does seem like a basic question... ok I load balance three servers.
Users get nicely distributed from 1 to 2 to 3. What happens if ALL servers
have a full load?
Do my users rub rocksalt? Do they get moved to the "least" fully loaded server?
