Steve,

Here are a few quick things you could do that would at least help keep
the overall profile sizes down without going crazy with re-directs.=20

IE has a setting under 'advanced' that wipes all temp I-net files when
IE is closed. Running change user /install, checking this setting and
then going back to execute mode should propagate this change out to
users. The default setup of IE of course does allows your IE temp cache
size to grow very large per user, so setting this can clear up a large
amount of space.=20

The other quick and easy change to implement that helps reduces profile
size is the "exclude directories in roaming profile" GP setting. This
does by default drop the hidden folder "local settings" from the root of
the users profile on log off however, so apps that store data under
"local settings" (outlook express, outlook 'when using POP') can loose
data. Just be sure you don't need any info in those folders before
rolling this change out. (BTW - this GP setting will also drop the
directories where IE stores it's temp cache)

Other than that, as has already been mentioned, folder re-directs for
key folders are a great way to keep your profiles trimmed. Typically,
I'd look for additional profile growth in the "favorites", "My
documents", and "desktop" folders under the root of the users' profile.=20

My docs and desktop are easy to re-direct via GP, or even scripting if
needed. I usually re-direct the favorites folder through a reg change on
user login, to somewhere like the user's home directory.=20

HTH

You could use folder redirection as Ron said, and then add quotas to the
NTFS volume on your master share to catch anything that slips through.

If you set your "warning" level far enough away from your "cutoff"
level,
you'll be able to catch huge profiles before they affect the users.

Yeah, well I built the farm with mandatory but now a couple of weeks =3D
later
the client has chose to go roaming. For various reasons, we are not =3D
going to
go hog crazy with re-directs, the client simply wants to limit to total
=3D
size
of the profile. Any ideas on how to do this directly?
