hardware firewalls should be ok.. although the cheaper ones will likely hit= some sort limit earlier on and not offer as many features - careful what y= ou buy :) Andrew --o-- >>> Melvin.Columna@xxxxxxxxx 24/03/04 13:18:10 >>> Gang, what about consumer-based H/W firewalls like LinkSys and Dlink Routers? Aren't those fairly secure? As long as there are no PCs in the DMZ and you don't have a port forward which is compromised? -----Original Message----- From: thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx]On=20 Behalf Of Andrew Rogers Sent: Wednesday, March 24, 2004 7:26 AM To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx=20 Subject: [THIN] Re: FYI - New worm nahh, BSD is ok, theyve had their legal troubles already in the past from A= =3D T&T :) Plus it seems SCO is only suing its customers.. Building a secure firewall on a Windows PC is akin to building a brick house on a fault line. I have been using ICF and now the Beta Windows Firewall on my Windows PC's. These work well enough, though inflexible for my taste. I even recommend it turned on inside the corporate firewall, many are misconfigured or inadequately admin'd. I am contemplating an OpenBSD PF (packet filter) home-brewed firewall at the home office. Only 1 remote exploit found in the default install in 7 years. Not a bad track record. http://www.openbsd.org=3D20=20 >>> jimkenz@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx 03/23/04 7:17 PM >>> I stand by my choice and constant suggestions of Sygate Firewall. It has been protecting me reliably for years. I hate black ice, Norton and zone alarm.
