It seems to be the norm rather than the exception... The new Cisco seems to auto-negotiate 1000/Full Duplex fine, but the old ones keep negotiating to 100/Half Duplex. I suppose it's best to hard-code speed and duplex in any scenario. My favorite is the Cisco bug that dropped even-bit packets and the default setting for a broadcom nic on a dell was set to go to sleep on inactivity. I remember purchasing the very first Ethernet switch on the market and having this issue. It blows my mind that I come across it all the time to this day. Bottom line- never rely on auto-negotiated speed/duplex in critical applications.... Steve Greenberg Thin Client Computing 34522 N. It eventually proved to be because our Cisco switches don't autonegotiate the connection speed properly. One end seems to run at 100Mb and the other seems to run at 10Mb, resulting in huge packet loss. Enough data gets through to keep the ICA connection going but users can experience long delays. Forcing the LAN card and switch to 100Mb fixes the issue. Of course, I'm looking at doing that with 2000 machines. luckily I can delegate..... -----Original Message----- From: Tim Mangan [mailto:tmangan@xxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: 02 September 2004 22:00 To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [THIN] Re: Delay when typing See www.tmurgent.com\images\PerceivedPerformance.pdf for a detailed description on what's happening. I still get it sometimes but what I'm really looking for is a white paper talking about this issue. When I have a user typing in their email or whatever they experience delay from when they hit the letters and when they see them. Sometimes they can be an entire line ahead of themself. Anyway, I just need some MS and Citrix whitepapers that go into detail. If you know where I can find them please share.
