I would imagine your call to setdefaultprinter is failing, then.

By default (you see how that works? ;-) - we talk about default printers,
and I just slide the term in with a bit of humuor :-))) ) the default
printer will be the first one there - either mapped or installed. If that
gets deleted, presumably the rationale will be to go to the next in the
list, until there's only one...

Check the return code to see why setdefaultprinter isn't working. Also check
whether the printer's true name is different from the share name.
