I agree the question is valid to see if the candidate actually has worked with 
the product or just memorized some white papers, however when asking questions 
that are clearly dependant upon a unique environment that you may or may not 
have all the information for and person asking the questions are looking for 
direct specific answers, I am not sure how valid the question is.  It goes back 
to who is asking and what type of information are they looking in the answer of 
the question.  Good interviews would take the information and just look at the 
analytical skills and not look for just the right answer as there could be 
multiple good answers.  Just a thought.

FWIW, I don't think that's such a bad question. 

It's not particularly leading, nor is it pedantic and memory focussed. 

Just gives a candidate an opportunity to show whether they do understand 
something, to what degree they understand something, and how well they 
can explain it. 

If nothing else, it perhaps at least gives somebody the opportunity to 
show they know more than merely product specifics, or cert required 
knowledge.
