December's book is BR17785 DB43546 Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens.

Classic nineteenth-century Christmas story set in England describes the
conversion of grasping old mizer Ebenezer Scrooge when he is visited by
ghosts of Christmas past, present, and future.

Discussion questions

A Christmas Carol By Charles Dickens

1. How did you like the book?

2. Did you think the biography at the beginning and the reference notes at
the end added to the enjoyment of the book?

3. Did Dickens do a good job of setting the story up so you felt like you
were in a ghost story?

4. Do you believe that Bob Cratchet was actually abused by Scrooge?.

5. What particular part of English society did Dickens not include in this
story that was commonly portrayed in other stories of this time period?

6 Do you feel there were any characters in the book that did not add
anything to the story?.

7. How did you feel about the portrayal of the 3 ghosts? Did Dickens make
them seem believable?

8. Did the ghost of Christmas past show is enough of Scrooges early life to
give us a good idea of what hardened Scrooges heart toward Christmas?

9. Why do you think Scrooge did not realize that he was the dead man laying
on the bed?

10. Which character in the book do you feel helped the most to bring about
the change in Scrooge? Fred, Bob Cratchet, Tiny Tim, Ghost of Christmas
Present or Past?

11. How many of you think this is one of the best classic Christmas stories
and do you think the story is interesting enough to have sparked Hollywood
to make a total of 35 different movies all based on this story line?

.

January's book is DB32968 Canticle for Leibowitz by Walter M Miller

This futuristic novel is set in a monastery after the destruction of the
present civilization. The central theme is the church's role as preserver
of wisdom and spiritual life. 1955
