like with all our projects (TE.mcc, YAM, etc.) a release version without
any runtime debugging can be compiled with

make DEBUG=

then your binaries will have no runtime debugging stuff at all. Please
keep in mind the difference between debugging symbols and runtime
debugging information (e.g. ENTER()/LEAVE(), etc).
