Back on the 15th I started out to get all the migrants at Sabine and had this osprey for my early bird http://www.pbase.com/joseph_kennedy_36/image/155691727 And trying to be regal http://www.pbase.com/joseph_kennedy_36/image/155691730 The thickets on the highway had a few warblers and orioles including this yellow warbler http://www.pbase.com/joseph_kennedy_36/image/155691731 The ponds in the state park had sandpipers including this semipalmated http://www.pbase.com/joseph_kennedy_36/image/155691732 Sitting common nighthawks can be exciting as they sit with their eyes closed http://www.pbase.com/joseph_kennedy_36/image/155691736 Then take a look http://www.pbase.com/joseph_kennedy_36/image/155691737 And a full look http://www.pbase.com/joseph_kennedy_36/image/155691738 Lots of baby killdeer about http://www.pbase.com/joseph_kennedy_36/image/155691741 Several pairs of great crested flycatchers in the woods at Sabine are on territory and one at a hole http://www.pbase.com/joseph_kennedy_36/image/155691771 http://www.pbase.com/joseph_kennedy_36/image/155691774 Magnolia warbler was the warbler of the day http://www.pbase.com/joseph_kennedy_36/image/155691781 With a nice yellow rump http://www.pbase.com/joseph_kennedy_36/image/155691780 Wood pewees were the flycatcher of the day http://www.pbase.com/joseph_kennedy_36/image/155691762 And the mostly golden-fronted woodpecker in his hole http://www.pbase.com/joseph_kennedy_36/image/155691767 The birds of the day were the hordes of white-rumped sandpipers on 1985. At the time I thought that they were just flying around looking for water of the proper level. Went back the next morning and had a peregrine falcon giving the shorebirds more flying lessons so the peregrine was probably the cause of some of the movements here http://www.pbase.com/joseph_kennedy_36/image/155668072 Note that there are some without white rumps and a stripe down the center of the tail are semipalmated sandpipers http://www.pbase.com/joseph_kennedy_36/image/155691809 Note how the color of the birds changes with the angle of the wings to the light http://www.pbase.com/joseph_kennedy_36/image/155691811 There is a single? hudsonian godwit in this picture http://www.pbase.com/joseph_kennedy_36/image/155691813 And a couple of godwits here http://www.pbase.com/joseph_kennedy_36/image/155691814 And again a single godwit http://www.pbase.com/joseph_kennedy_36/image/155691815 And then more godwits http://www.pbase.com/joseph_kennedy_36/image/155691817 And more http://www.pbase.com/joseph_kennedy_36/image/155691818 And more http://www.pbase.com/joseph_kennedy_36/0_older_new_pictures This is the resting white-rumps after most of the birds left http://www.pbase.com/joseph_kennedy_36/image/155691808 And feeding hudsonian godwits http://www.pbase.com/joseph_kennedy_36/image/155691797 A single lesser yellowlegs at Anahuac was anticlimatic http://www.pbase.com/joseph_kennedy_36/image/155691795 All of these and more of the sandpipers can be browsed at http://www.pbase.com/joseph_kennedy_36/0_older_new_pictures -- Joseph C.
