The red laser I got from Staples could be seen on my hiking boot. Five
feet away in the dust of the trail the red beam of the laser was
invisible. For trees 20 feet away or ducks a hundred yards or even 100
feet away in a pond, the red laser was useless.
My experimenting with the green laser I got a few months ago has been
limited but much more promising. A number of people used green lasers at
Choke Canyon Reservoir when the Pacific -slope Flycatcher was there. Local
ameture astronomers have used green lasers at events I have attended at
Government Canyon and in NW North Dakota
Keep in mind that pointing a green laser into the cockpit of any aircraft
is a good way to go to jail. That probably applies to boats, cars, ATVs,
etc.
