-Rarities found this week-
A *WHITE-TAILED KITE* was well described from Fort Hood, *Bell*, on 3/1.
The bird was observed in a restricted access area but was seen near Belton
Lake so it is possible the bird may wander around the area.
A female *RED-NAPED SAPSUCKER* was photographed at McKinney Falls State
Park in Austin, *Travis*, on 2/28 and continues through 3/2.
A *GREAT KISKADEE* was photographed at a private residence in San Marcos,
*Hays*, on 3/1. The homeowner first observed the bird in July of 2015 and
had not seen it again until this week.
A *GREEN JAY* was reported at the intersection of FM 466 and Youth Haven
Road just SE of Seguin, *Guadalupe*, on 2/28.
Continuing a burst of South Texas specialties into our area, an* AUDUBON'S
ORIOLE* was photographed on Jeddo Rd west of Cistern, *Fayette*, on 2/27.
This is a great find this far north and one of only a handful of records
for the Austin Circle.
A male *PURPLE FINCH* was photographed at the bird blind at Pedernales
Falls State Park, *Blanco*, on 2/28.
-Continuing birds from previous weeks-
A *HAMMOND'S FLYCATCHER* continued at the San Gabriel Wildlife Management
Area, *Williamson*, through at least 2/28. No recent reports.
A *BLACK PHOEBE* continues at Barkley Meadows, *Travis*, 2/28. The bird has
been present over 6 months now.
The long-staying *GREAT KISKADEE* continued at Berry Springs Park in
Georgetown,* Williamson*, 3/1.
There are several *PYRRHULOXIAs *still hanging around the circle. Birds
were seen at Reimer's Ranch (3), *Travis, *2/27, Commons Ford Park, *Travis*,
2/27, Hornsby Bend, *Travis*, 2/27 and Warbler Woods, *Guadalupe,* 2/26.
While numbers are down from the previous two winters, *RUSTY BLACKBIRDs* (3)
continue at Hornsby Bend, *Travis*, most recently photographed on 2/27.
