A possible adult Northern Goshawk was seen on the Lewisville Christmas Bird Count on December 27 in the non-public portion of the Lewisville Lake Environmental Learning Area by birders Lisa Cole and Diane Wetherbee. No photo was obtained, but the bird was perched and easily observed for several moments before it flew. The bird was definitely a large accipiter, with a light breast showing faint gray bars, a dark black cap, and a bright white eyebrow. A third birder reported a possible distant sighting on January 1 in the same area. As this is a Texas Review Species, we'd like to try for better documentation of this bird, if it is still present and can be found. If you are interested in helping LLELA staff search for this bird, please contact LLELA Director Ken Steigman (steigman@xxxxxxx<mailto:steigman@xxxxxxx>) to arrange for access to the closed portion of LLELA.
