I skipped away from work for a day, and started out at La Sal del Rey, hoping
to find Botteri's Sparrows among some other gems. It's not the best place for
BOSPs but I wanted to see if they were breeding there. I dipped on BOSPs but
still had a nice cool-ish morning.

From there I headed to Estero Llano Grande SP, hoping to enjoy my breakfast on
the deck. The front wetlands are dry right now, but don't let that dissuade
you from visiting this wonderful park. Joining up with John Yochum and Kyle
O'Haver, we started with the tropical area, and then tooled around the wetlands
and checked the levy where we found black-bellied whistling-ducks with babies,
roseate spoonbills, and other waterbirds.

I hadn't been back to Resaca de la Palma State Park in forever, so I rounded
out my trip there, skipping Cannon Rd only because I was getting short on time.
A tram ride there added to my species list, but I did not find any
yellow-green vireos, although it was noon by then.

I skipped out on Palo Alto NHS, although I know I'd find BOSPs there. However,
I had dogs to walk back at home. All in all, a pleasant day, and 71 species.
Not bad for a hot summer day.

I also spotted the following species between birding sites:

  White Ibis -
  Eudocimus albus - 1

  Eastern Meadowlark - Sturnella magna - 2

  White-tailed Hawk (Geranoaetus
  albicaudatus) - 1
