After two failed attempts we found the Eurasian wigeon at osprey overlook
laguna atascosa NWR in Cameron county about 9:45 this morning. It was off to a
the right from the overlook in a mass of ducks mostly redheads and American
wigeon. It came in and out of view for the next 45 minutes as it mingled with
the flock. Dang hard to find but once on it it stuck out. The flanks are much
lighter gray than the other wigeon and the horizontal white stripe down the
side helps to. The lighting can be tricky on the head color and of course there
are a bunch of redheads which doesn't help.
