[texbirds] Bird Walk at the National Butterfly Center

Good day Texbirders,


            Today the National Butterfly Center kicked off its Saturday
bird walks which will now take place every other Saturday from 8:30am to
10:30am. The bird walk starts off on the Hackberry Trail, where bobcats,
coyote and other wildlife are seen. Our native plant gardens, south of the
visitors center, provides food and shelter for many valley specialty birds
like the Green Jay, Altamira Oriole and Olive Sparrow to name a few. Our
bird viewing area is an excellent place for photography where tables and
benches are provided. Within 30 minutes of sitting down you could see
upwards of 25+ bird species.



The bird walk then continues to the Back 70 (acres) where many wading birds
are seen on the banks of Rio Grande River like the Green Heron, Great Blue
Heron and Tricolored Heron...to name a few. Also seen are the Kingfishers!
Other birds like the Scissor-tailed and Vermilion Flycatchers are seen
frequently depending on season. The National Butterfly Center offers a
great birding experience and we get pretty good butterflies too! Hope you
