7-14-13 TexBirders, Birds seen throughout Bentsen-RGV State Park and HQ gardens listed below. No recent report of the Varied Bunting. Birds seen around the HQ gardens include Green Herons, Plain Chachalacas, Great Kiskadees, Yellow-billed Cuckoos, Groove-billed Anis, Olive Sparrows, Clay-colored Thrush, Long-billed & Curved-billed Thrashers, Lark Sparrows and Painted Bunting. Not expected this time of year were several Orchard Orioles (five males, three females) in the re-veg area north of the Administration Bldg. A small group of Wild Turkey has been seen roaming throughout the park. Northern-beardless Tyrannulet is vocal along the main park road just past the Nature Center and Maintenance Yard. After dark, Common Pauraque, Lesser & Common Nighthawk, Eastern Screech-Owl and Elf Owl were seen and/or heard throughout the park, especially in the Acacia Loop and at the Nature Center.
