Hi Pete, actually that hook up (HOT removed, series bulb from C to Gnd) will
not show evidence of a short in IHTV and collector components. It's
necessary to have a working HOT in circuit and series bulb in Coll.
Total set current can be achieved by using amp meter in line. This is
usually out of dvm range, but there are inexpensive Amp meters that have a
loop prong that opens to allow inserting meter in one side of the line
without cutting any wiring. Many Iso Xfmrs will have an Amp/Voltage meter
built in to check if set is in normal range.
