I should have added I checked the HOT transoistor and it was OK. I feel 
the mentioned capacitor shorting  was the culprit, as main fuse and HOT 
being good, with no arcs at the ac input.
I used the Sony G board kit for all these.(order as #  G-BOARD-KIT) May 
not need all the parts (VDR's,etc) in all versions of TV model, but nice 
to have the pack to use as a general parts kit, and less expensive than 
a-la-carte purchasing components seperately.
