[TechAssist] Re: Sony KV27FS100L Fixed almost

I finally found the problem with this thing. The dual diode D615 was shorted.
This I knew and had unsoldered one leg to relieve the short to ground reading.
The problem was the diode was shorted on all three legs and two of the legs go
to windings in the secondary of the power supply. So the windings were
effectually shorted. Removed the diode from circuit and set runs fine. Don't
know if there is a problem with the audio amp I/C that the diode furnishes a
supply voltage for. The diode is on back-order, naturally, so wont know till it
gets in. Love these Sonys.

one with that power supply on a
separate board. They had a procedure for troubleshooting that, out of the
set. I could see me having one all repaired, sitting on the shelf waiting
for a chassis to put it in after I replaced the shorted HO transistor that
killed it. I never got enough of those in, to do that.

I don't understand why Sony persists in using power supplies that get wiped
out like that.
