There is still quite a bit of discussion as to the cause of the magnetic
field and the reason that it might reverse. If the magnetic field we observe
is the difference of two or more opposing magnetic fields then it is
possible that it could change by large amounts and very quickly. It could be
that the changes that have been observed are just normal fluctuations in
level. Too soon to tell.
