[TechAssist] Ribbon cable repair

Hi Techs.
Has anyone found a way to cut off the bad end of a ribbon cable and remove
the plastic coating to expose new foils so we can repair the cable. I have
a Go Video DVR5000 that appears to have a bad cable and I don't know where
to get a new one without a lot of hassle. Its a 40 contact cable from DVD
to chassis. As you get older you lose all the ingenuity you use to have and
I lost mine.
