Someone inquired as to the contents of an RCA regulator transistor kit.
I have one of them in stock, and here's the info:
CTC185 Regulator Kit:
For ONLY models: CTC185A,B,C,D,M,N,AA and AB chassis.
(WILL NOT WORK in CTC185A2,A3,B2,B3,C2,C3,D2,D3,M2,M3,N2,N3,AA2,AA3,AB2
and AB3 versions. These chassis have a different regulator circuit that
use an STP12NB30 for Q4114.)
Stock number 231523
contents:
(1) 231523 (Q4114) with insulator
(1) 227362(CR4111)
(2) 176296 (CR4112,CR4113)
(1) 184980(R4136-143K 1/4 watt)
(1)231525 (U4103) and
(1) 232208 (C4106- .47Uf).
Procedure: (exactly as written)
When replacing a failed Q4114 regulator in the CTC185 chassis, replace
the other parts included in this kit. Failure to do so may cause the
regulator to run hot and fail again. After replacement, operate the set
for approximately 15 minutes, turn the set off and then check the
regulator. It should NOT be uncomfortable warm to the touch.
If the regulator is too hot by above test, check the mounting of the
transistor to the heatsink and make sure it is flush against it with
heatsink grease. If it is correct and the transistor still runs hot,
there is probably still a failed component in the regulator curcuit.
Note: C4106 has been changed from a 1 Uf electrolytic to a .47 (point
four seven) poly capacitor.CR4112 and CR4113 look different than the
original parts but are suitable replacements.
