[TechAssist] IBM laptop, model 770, display blinking

Display fluorescent tube comes on blinking, eventually goes off. I replaced
the inverter pcb, 05K3114 with no success. I then temporarily attached a
generic CCFL tube and got the same result. Is it possible the generic tube
draws too
much current and causes the inverter power supply to shut down or is there
something else to look at?
