I measured the voltage of the motor (see post below) and the voltage was switching from '+' to '-' as soon as the platter stopped turning--indicating that the motor was indeed turning clockwise (I can't see the motor turning because it is all covered in plastic. I finally figured out the timing of the gears and CD platter. I am guessing that the customer had a problem with CD's skipping and he took it more apart than he needed to--causing a second problem for him and a bigger problem for me. This mini stereo systems uses one motor to spin the 3 CD tray (motor spins counter-clockwise). Once it finds the one CD I placed in the tray, the same motor is supposed to turn clockwise, engaging another gear that raises and lowers the optical pickup assembly. The problem is once the CD is found, the motor keeps spinning counter-clockwise until it shuts down. Has anyone seen this problem before? TIA.
