Thanks to all that responded with all of the helpful tips, both on the list and
to me privately. I would mention names but there were many.... but you guys
know who you are...and again...many thanks. I really appreciate it.
Now for the details.... It was suggested that I may be missing the right
opportunity to get into the "safe mode" using the "F8" key. That was indeed
the problem. I started to hit the "F8" key repeatedly as soon as I turned the
computer on. This did bring it up into the "safe mode". However, I still had
problems. I could not change my display settings. It would just keep reverting
to the old setting. I then located the display drivers and deleted them, then
re-booted. This finally allowed it to come up into 640X480X16. I downloaded a
new set of display drivers and installed them. All is working fine now.
Apparently the display drivers got corrupted when the flyback went out in the
monitor. Computer is fine now...thanks to all of you guy's help.
